Friday morning brought us sunny skies and a long bus ride from Riga to Tallinn. This was to be the longest of our road trips, so we’d built-in stops at a few natural wonders that were sure to delight – Gauja National Park and Pärnu beach.
Gauja National Park is the largest national park in Latvia. With over 350 square miles, there was no way we could explore everything it had to offer! Instead, we visited Turaida Castle, a 13th century castle on the banks of the Gauja River. From the main tower of the castle, we had a wonderful view of the Gauja valley, including the stone sculptures in the Folk Song Garden.
After lunch, we crossed into Estonia. We were in need of some fresh air after being cooped up in the bus for so long, so we headed straight for the cool waters and sandy beaches of Pärnu Bay, on the Gulf of Livonia.
Tomorrow would bring a tour of Tallinn and the final concert of our Baltic adventure!
